This 9-day road trip takes you through the heart of the American Plains — where rugged badlands meet rolling prairies, and historic monuments rise from the rock itself. Starting from Minneapolis, this route covers highlights of South Dakota’s dramatic landscapes and North Dakota’s wide-open beauty, with detours through Wyoming’s iconic Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Expect long drives (some 6–8 hours), but they’re beautifully scenic — with winding byways, open roads, and glimpses of wildlife around every bend.

Day 1 – Minneapolis

  • Fly into Minneapolis and pick up your rental car.
  • Stroll through Mill Ruins Park to see the historic flour mills and cross the Stone Arch Bridge, built in 1883.
  • Visit the Guthrie Theater, one of the Midwest’s top performing arts venues.
  • Walk to the Weisman Art Museum, a stunning modern building designed by Frank Gehry.
  • Explore the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, home to large outdoor installations.
  • End the day at Minnehaha Regional Park to view the 53-foot waterfall.

Day 2 – Badlands National Park
