What to Expect
Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, is one of Europe’s most underrated gems — a city that feels both authentic and refreshingly uncrowded. Far less visited than Western Europe’s capitals, it offers an affordable and welcoming experience where locals are genuinely kind and eager to share their culture. The city’s architecture and atmosphere reflect its rich tapestry of influences — from Roman ruins and Ottoman mosques to Orthodox cathedrals and Soviet-era landmarks — creating a landscape where history and modern life blend seamlessly. Sofia also boasts a thriving coffee culture, with cozy cafés tucked into leafy streets and lively squares. Just beyond the city limits, nature takes center stage: Vitosha Mountain, the serene Boyana Church, and the breathtaking Rila Lakes and Monastery are all easily within reach, making Sofia a destination that effortlessly balances urban energy with natural beauty.
